The Salzburg Foothills of the Alps The village of Anthering is situated 7 km north of the City of Salzburg on the foothills of the Haunsberg. To the west flows the Salzach river, that has created a primeval meadowland in the course of hundreds of years. This meadowland is home to a great many types of birds, deer, moufflon and wild boar. The bicycle trails Tauernradweg and Mozartradweg lead along the Salzach river directly to Anthering. Well trained guests cycle the stretch from Anthering into the City of Salzburg within 30 minutes. If you want to travel at a more leisurely space, ride the local electric train Lokalbahn to the City of Salzburg (departure every 15/30 minutes). From the main station it is only a short walk to the sights of the old part of the City. And what’s more: the train station of Anthering lies just a 5 minute walk from the Neuwirtgut. |

A variety of undertakings and plenty of activities Whether you want to hike, ride a bicycle or simply be lazy – our village offers something for every taste. Numerous hiking trails lead to the top of the Haunsberg and the joining hillsides at different gradient levels. A good many legends take their origin in the gorges and creeks – for example the frightening but harmless Maunzteufel. The site of the former Kaiserbuche (a beech tree planted on the personal request of the late Austrian emperor) on the ridge of the Haunsberg is a worthwhile destination and a fantastic panorama is the award. A hike through the Anthering meadowland is a special experience throughout the year. It hosts many endemic flowers and blossoms and eventual sighting of wild boar will certainly be a highlight. Not only the Tauern- and Mozart trails invite cyclists. A network of marked cycle trails lead into the lake district of the Obertrumer Lake and Mattsee, on to the Wallersee and if you still feel fit you can continue along the Salzkammergut Lake Lands. Somewhat more relaxing is a bicycle ride to Oberndorf at only 10 km distance where you can visit the famous Silent Night chapel. Not far is the village of Arnsdorf where Franz Xaver Gruber, the composer of the song Silent Night, was employed as a teacher. You are warmly invited to visit the swimming pool in Anthering, the tennis courts or the so-called fun park with skating tracks, basket- and beach volley ball facilities as well. And a visit to the herbal garden with its over 350 medicinal- and aromatic herbs must not be missed during your holiday in Anthering.
